"The Last Show" is very much a parody of "The Last Supper" painting, including musicians instead of apostles. This was a specific request made by the National Format Director for Rock, and I was asked to have fun with it. The majority of the piece is photo manipulation with artist heads, and then stylized to create an oil painted texture.
The main focus was always to be on Doc, Woody and Randall partaking in a feast of their most talked about foods on the show -Fried Chicken and Beer- while celebrating with members of famous bands. There certainly wasn't enough apostles, so honourable band mentions are showcased as posters on the walls.
I selected an assortment of famous musicians that are often played on CHEZ, and felt that I needed to build a juxtaposition of artists based on look of the original apostles. Some examples were a bit specific in context... like Rob Halford (Judas Priest) sitting in Judas' seat. Though some just seem to fit the scene a bit better than other artists would, like The Beatles with John holding a knife to the rest of the band, while also caressing Yoko. The opposite half of the table consists of other bands like Metallica, Guns & Roses, and ZZ Top.
